If you want to greet Monday morning with higher energy, glowing skin, a slightly slimmer waistline, and a body cleansed of your most recent indulgences, this quick and healthy detox plan will do the trick.

The plan was created by Linda Page, naturopath and author of Detoxification, and her colleague Sarah Abernathy, herbal consultant for Healthy Healing publications.

“Most of us are guilty of over-indulgence in fatty, sugary foods from time to time. Following a safe detox program is one of the best ways to quickly release trapped fats and sugar, and increase your health and energy levels,” Abernathy says.

The juices and foods in the recipes below were specifically selected to help your body release excess salt and toxins, while balancing your blood sugar.

Abernathy suggests you start your detox on a Friday and follow it through the weekend. Follow up with 1 to 4 days of fresh, whole foods (no fast or processed foods) for the best results.

The Fast Fat & Sugar Detox Plan

The first 3 days:

On rising: Take a glass of lemon juice and water in the morning for a quick liver detox.

Breakfast: Have a glass of blood-sugar–balancing blueberry juice from the health food store. Look for brands with no added sugar: Blueberries help to enhance insulin sensitivity — the body’s ability to use sugar as energy.

Mid-morning: Have a potassium juice. Juice: 3 carrots, 3 stalks celery, ½ bunch spinach, and ½ bunch parsley. This juice is ideal for cleansing because it is high in antioxidants, and has diuretic properties to flush out trapped fats, sodium and sugar.

Lunch: Have another potassium juice. Or, take 1 teaspoon of green super-food powder (like barley grass or spirulina) in a glass of organic apple juice.

Mid-afternoon: Have a cup of green tea for extra fat burning.

Dinner: Break your juice fast for your evening meal only, but keep it very light—have baked seafood with brown rice and green salad with light dressing; or have a vegetarian stir-fry with brown rice and the veggies of your choice.

Before bed: Drink 1 teaspoon of nutritional yeast mixed in warm water. Nutritional yeast is an excellent source of B vitamins and chromium, a trace mineral for blood- sugar balance.

Pointers for the best results for your cleanse.

· Drink plenty of water! Have eight glasses of filtered water each day of your cleanse.

· Exercise! It can really accelerate the elimination of those trapped fats and toxins.
