The media continues to trumpet stereotypes about what it means to be a black woman. If it’s not a story about us fussing and fighting, there’s the ongoing discussion about our supposed inability to find love or stay healthy.
Well at Fierce, we are sharing stories about the real lives of black women. We are celebrating a generation of women in their prime. We are not perfect. (What group is?) But many of us are accomplished, determined, proud and striving to be the best that we possibly can be in all aspects of life.
Here is the Fierce manifesto:
To be Fierce is to be fit, fabulous, healthy, powerful, joyous and peaceful. To discover great health and experience how it enriches your life.
To be Fierce is to embrace all that’s wonderful about being a black woman. To live your dreams, celebrate your strengths and appreciate your true beauty. It means being confident and unapologetically you!
Whether you’re 35, 55 or older, we know that you want to look good and feel good every day. Fierce is your partner on the path to optimum health and wellness in every aspect of your life — relationships, finances, beauty, spirituality, physical and mental health. You make every effort to live a full, rich, balanced life. We want to help you create that life in a way that’s meaningful to you.
Fierce was created by black women, for black women, to do what no other media outlet is doing today—be a groundbreaking, stereotype-shattering and inspiring resource to help us live our healthiest lives. We promise to enlighten, empower and entertain you.
At Fierce, we know when to have fun and when to get serious about sharing the knowledge we all need to get healthy and stay that way. Even though we are fortunate to be living at a time when many of us are more successful than ever before, we still endure higher rates of many health risks than any other group in the United States.
We are committed to making sure you get the good news and the best advice about tackling our unique health challenges. We will keep you up to date on the latest research, controversies and, most important, solutions to rising above our risks so that you can live your best life. Fierce is committed to quality investigative reporting and exploration of the issues that affect us, while giving you a place to share your own success stories.
We invite you to join an online community — our Circle of Sisters — that will bring you together with some of the nation’s leading health experts and other women from around the country.
So let’s have some serious and not-so-serious girl talk. Together, we can inspire each other to be even more fierce — healthy, fit and fabulous!
