April and May not only brings us the first bright, sunny days of spring, this is also the time of year that we celebrate National Minority Health Month. It is the perfect opportunity to think about how well you are taking care of yourself.

Whether you are happily single, a mom, a partner, a wife or caregiver, remember that you can’t support your loved ones if you are not feeling your best. If you have not done so already, promise yourself you will take these three, simple steps in the next 30 days:

  1. Get your free Well-Woman visit (WWV). As part of the Affordable Care Act, all health plans must offer you a WWV as well as this list of checkups without charging you a copay or coinsurance.
  2. Get your annual dental exam. Protecting your oral health is an important part of protecting your overall health, especially during pregnancy. Gum disease may also contribute to other health problems like heart disease.
  3. Log onto to Minority Health.gov to see if there’s a minority health event in your community.
