A Purpose Redefined

Now, 114 pounds lighter and enjoying her gorgeous home, White still sees her purpose as helping others, but now it includes being kind to herself. “I realize I was really blessed to be involved with the show. Since then, I’ve received notes from Russia, Africa and all over the United States from people who have gone through some of the same things I have. People were so transparent with their problems that it helped me with my issues.” Using Facebook and other social media, White now offers healthy living advice to others seeking a second chance. (See sidebar.)

“Now, I have people over,” White says. “There’s more life in this house than there’s ever been. As for men, I say ‘not yet.’ I am focusing on me!”

Mitzi’s 10 Tips for Changing Your Life

  1. Realize that you don’t have to keep secrets. You can be vulnerable. The people who really love you don’t care.
  2. To other black women especially, you must put yourself first. You are No. 1.
  3. Rewind your life. If you are stuck, try to look back and figure out where your problems started and begin to repair the damage.
  4. Whatever it is, forgive yourself, and realize you may need to forgive someone else.
  5. Be present. Live in the moment.
  6. Live with integrity. Keep your promises to yourself.
  7. Realize you are not perfect. Falling down is not failing.
  8. Reach out, and ask for help.
  9. Trust in God, but realize you have to do the work and keep going.
  10. It’s never too late to start reclaiming your life!
